Mechanicsburg, PA – Monday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Baseball team beat both the snow and the Messiah College Junior Varsity in a game that was moved up a day to avoid the next Northeaster predicted to affect Pennsylvania. In the ball game, the Falcons outscored Messiah 10-4.
The Falcons took an early 9-1 lead through the first six innings, before coasting to the 10-5 final.
At the plate, Lackawanna collected 12 hits, two of which were for extra bases and seven of which were the product of multi-hit games. The multi-hit games were contributed by Aaron Yurko, Kelani Luke and DJ Berry-Staszak. Yurko had the most hits of the three as he singled three times in four at bats. He also scored once and drove in another. Luke was the most productive, as he drove in four runs and scored another with a single and double in four trips to the plate. Finally, Berry-Staszak singled twice in three official plate appearances. He also scored twice. The Falcons only other extra base hit was a two-run triple by Jahmoi Percival in the top of the fourth.
Lackawanna used six pitchers in limiting the Messiah Falcons to five runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits, while striking out nine. Of the six, Jake Rajsigi was credited with the win after holding Messiah scoreless and hitless over two innings of work.
Please follow the Lackawanna College Baseball schedule for the status of the Falcons remaining four contests this week. With field conditions and the predicted weather, changes in that schedule are anticipated.
