At Lincroft, New Jersey, the Lackawanna College men's basketball team won the Region XIX Division II Basketball Title with a 79-68 win. The Falcons were led by DeAndre Albritton , who scored twenty-one (21) points, dished out twelve (12) assists and recorded eight (8) rebounds.
Also having noteworthy performances were Antione Hackman with seventeen (17) points and Vincent Roux with ten (10 ) points. De'Vaughn Jones led the team in rebounds with nine (9) ,while Albritton's assist total led the Falcons in that category.
Ironically, it was a 90-82 loss to Essex that turned Lackawanna season around. After losing to the Wolverines, the Falcon's Region record was 4 – 5 with seven (7) league games left on their schedule. They not only won those seven (7) games but claimed the second place seed in the Region XIX playoffs. Essex entered the contest with only one Region loss; a January 26th defeat at the hands of County College of Morris. The Championship was the first for the program since they claimed the Region XIX title during the 2004-2003 season.
At the conclusion of the contest, head coach Raru Archer was named region XIX Division II Coach of the Year. DeAndre Albritton was named the Division II Tournament MVP. Albritton's two game totals were thirty-eight (38) points, eighteen (18) rebounds and fourteen (14) assists.
Lackawanna next plays Saturday, March 10th in the District 11 playoff. Its opponent will come from the winner of the Region 15 – Region 21 playoffs, and will be played at the home court of that winner. Game time and opponent will be announced once they are determined.
