Hazleton, PA - Tuesday afternoon, the Lackawanna College Men's Soccer team beat Penn State Hazleton by a 4-3 score. The Falcons were led by Montrell James, who was credited with two goals and an assist.
The Falcons initial goal was scored by Giovanni Vega at the 2:59 mark in the first period. He was assisted by Santash Subedi. That goal was followed by James's first goal of the day, an unassisted score at 3:18. Lackawanna saw their 2-0 lead cut in half when PSU Hazelton scored at 11:09. Lackawanna bounced back at 20:33, when Fitz Jolly scored for the Falcons with an assist from James. The first period scoring came to an end when Hazelton scored again with 29:43 on the clock. As the first half came to an end, Lackawanna led 3-2.
Neither team scored again until the clock showed 61:50. At that point, James scored his second unassisted goal of the game, giving the Falcons a 4-2 score. That goal was important to Lackawanna because it made PSU's score at the 73:39 meaningless to the eventual outcome of the contest.
Lackawanna goalkeeper Rob Kuzma received the decision after holding PSU to two first period goals and recording two saves. He was relieved by Matthew Tisdel in the second period. Tisdel held Hazelton to a sole late game goal. For the game, Lackawanna's team outshot PSU 19-12.
Tuesday's game was good preparation for Lackawanna's Region XIX DI contest against Essex County College this Saturday at Scranton Prep's Loyola Complex. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
